THE BOOKS I'VE READ - 2022

Like the title says, it's the books I've read this year. I hand-drew every single cover using a brown gel pen and scanned them digitally. Below each cover is a rating out of 5 stars. Books are ordered chronologically with the exception of the unfinished pencil-drawn books at the end.

This book was a gift from my friend Hareem in Secret Santa at the end of December. It's a collection of poetry, short stories, and miscellaneous writings by patients in mental institutions. Most of them suffering with schizophrenia, most of their works being published after their death. This book was really interesting, and I started reading it almost as soon as my friend had given it to me. Very enjoyable. I performed one of the poems for the UIL Poetry Interpretation and got fifth in the district.

WATERSHIP DOWN

I started reading this book for my "Novel project" in 10th grade English 2. I made a really cool final project for the unit, but I didn't enjoy the book that much. I remember being very stressed about finishing the book while being very bored at reading about rabbits for almost four-hundred pages.

Thank you to Ariella's dad for lending me his copy of the book. This is the second Dune book, the first of which I read in early 2020. I tried to read the third book but I got bored and didn't want to keep Ariella's dad's book for too long, so I gave it back. Maybe I can only read one Dune book every two years...

N. H. Pritchard

This is a book of avant-garde poetry, which different forms of writing on the pages. Really cool stuff. I enjoyed the book a lot and I remember a lot of the stylization was things that I do too, li ke wh en iw ri te in gr ou ps of tw o.

PARADAIS
Fernanda Melchor

Fernanda Melchor is one of my favorite authors right now, this was the second book I read of hers and the first of two I read this year. It was an amazing book, and I remember finishing it during STAAR testing. Earlier, on one of the days when I didn't have testing (but I still had to suffer with the changed schedule), I remember sitting on the bleachers with Sebastian in the gym while he wrote in his journal. Good memory. Great book.

ANNIHILATION
Jeff Vandermeer

This book was so amazing. It has incredibly powerful diction and descriptive imagery that creates this entire world in your head. There's a movie adaptation with Natalie "I feel like sh*t" Portman which isn't entirely accurate to the books but it is equally an incredible film.
